A bit about me…
your future editor, perhaps?
Hi, I’m Kayla, the editor behind Alchemy Editorial.
I work with authors writing voice-driven stories across the commercial fiction spectrum, with a particular focus on fantasy, horror, and gothic fiction. If your book leans into emotional nuance, unexpected turns, layered characters, or immersive, high-stakes worlds, I’m probably already excited about it.
I hold a Professional Editing Standards Certificate from Queen’s University and have completed advanced coursework in developmental and line editing. My training is grounded in formal editorial standards and ongoing study of craft and publishing practice, which means my feedback is not only intuitive but structured and industry-aware.
My role is to help you shape that creative spark into a structurally sound, emotionally satisfying story. I’ll pinpoint what’s working, what isn’t quite landing, and how to bridge the gap without flattening your voice in the process. You’ll receive thoughtful, direct feedback designed to bring your vision into sharper focus and help you revise with clarity.
I love this work. I love these genres. And I’d love to help you tell the best version of your story, wherever it sits on the shelf.
About the Name
I named my business Alchemy Editorial because that’s what editing feels like at its best—transformational. Like turning raw story ore into gold. Not by imposing formulas, but by refining what’s already there.
Alchemy, historically, was both protoscience and magic. That’s exactly how I approach editing. The protoscience is the foundation of editing craft—story structure, language mechanics, genre theory, and best practices refined over time. The magic is the instinctual, creative spark that makes stories feel alive—the emotional movement, the voice, the meaning behind the monsters.
Editing sits at the intersection of the two. And that’s where I do my best work.
